LABOR LAW

MMA is sponsoring a Labor Law Workshop that will be held May 1 at the Senator Inn in Augusta. The workshop runs from 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.

This seminar is for public sector managers, supervisors or other officials. It will cover advanced topics in the area of municipal labor law.

VITAL STATISTICS

The Maine Town & City Clerks Association (MTCCA) will hold its Vital Statistics workshop at three locations in early May. The workshop will be held at the Waterville Elks Lodge on May 2, at Keeley’s in Portland on May 3, and at the Black Bear Inn in Orono on May 8.

This is a full day workshop providing those responsible for maintaining vital records with an overview of the law, rules and regulations that govern this municipal function. Instructors include Patty Brochu, City Clerk, Old Town, and staff from the state’s Office of Vital Statistics. This is one of four mandatory courses needed for MTCCA certification.

TAX SCHOOL

The annual conference of the Maine Municipal Tax Collectors & Treasurers Association (MMTCTA) will be held May 10 at the Holiday Inn Express in Saco. For more information, contact MMA’s Training & Affiliate office, 1-800-452-8786.

MANAGER/PUBLIC WORKS MEETING

The Maine Town & City Management Association (MTCMA) members will be joining with members of the Maine Chapter of the American Public Works Association (MCAPWA) for a Spring Meeting on May 11 at the Waterville Elks Club.

Topics to be covered at the half-day (morning) meeting include “Municipal Construction Work – Contract Out or In-House?” and “Regionalization – Emerging Track Record and Future Trends”.

RECORDS MANAGEMENT

The Maine Town & City Clerks Association (MTCCA) will hold its Records Management workshop on May 15 at Keeley’s in Portland.

This class-type workshop covers state required recordkeeping, the Local Government Records Retention Schedule, records accessibility under the Right-to-Know law, records preservation, and tips for efficient records management.

LICENSING WORKSHOP

MTCCA will hold a Licensing Workshop on May 23 at the Augusta Civic Center. This workshop will cover dog licensing, hunting and fishing licenses, and various business licenses.

ELECTED OFFICIALS WORKSHOP

Maine Municipal Association will be offering its Elected Officials Workshop (EOW) at two locations in early June. The first workshop is June 5 at the Black Bear Inn in Orono and it will also held on June 6 at the Holiday Inn Express in Saco.

The workshop runs from 4:30-8:30 p.m. at both locations.

This workshop is for selectmen and councilors. It is a “must” for newly-elected officials. Topics to be covered include the Right-to-Know law, municipal liability, home rule and ordinance authority, and much more.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY CONFERENCE

The Northeast Energy Efficiency Summit is being held May 10 in Providence, Rhode Island. This is a day-long event and attendees will include 250+ policy makers, energy industry leaders, and business executives from the Northeast region who are interested and/or committed to energy efficiency as a practice.
