The Town of Mount Desert is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Deputy Town Clerk to support and assist the Town Clerk in the varied and essential functions of the Clerk’s office. This role involves the issuance of licenses, registrations, and permits, collecting associated fees, accurately recording documents and vital statistics, assisting with voter registration and elections, and monthly reporting to State agencies.

This position requires excellent customer service skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to work effectively and independently with the public, Town officials and colleagues. Requires the ability to prepare and maintain complete clerical records. Ability to acquire thorough knowledge and understanding of the State Statutes relating to the duties and responsibilities of Town and City Clerks is also required. Ability to familiarize and assimilate knowledge of the provisions of the Town Charter, ordinances and State regulations as they relate to the operation of the Clerk’s office and Town. High school graduate, post-secondary courses in accounting, business, and computer technology preferred. Prior experience in a municipal environment and Notary Public preferred. In lieu of the above, any equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered at the discretion of the Town.
