Town Manager - Town of Turner

Start Date: November 19, 2024 | End Date: December 06, 2024
County: Androscoggin County
Job Type: Manager

The Town of Turner Board of Selectmen would like to meet individuals interested in becoming the community’s next Town Manager.  The position is expected to open in July, 2025, but the process is now underway to give the selected candidate the opportunity to participate in critical budgeting, planning and Town Meeting processes.

Turner is a vibrant, diverse, yet predominantly rural community of approximately 5,900 residents with a Town Meeting/Board of Selectmen/Town Manager form of government.  Town Zoning and other ordinances allow for well-planned growth, provided it blends harmoniously with the traditional character of the community.  Preservation of the town’s historic features, rolling farmland and scenic vistas are priorities.

The next Town Manager should possess a relevant balance of skills, education and experience.  Essential core skills include the ability to work productively with town employees, elected officials, volunteers and the public.  To that end, the ability to communicate effectively, both in person and in writing, is critical.  The Manager also should be comfortable using the basic Microsoft Office suite of tools (Word, Excel, Outlook), and a good, functional understanding of Trio municipal software also is helpful.  Other assets are a working knowledge of the relevant statutes and legal framework that applies to municipalities in Maine, the ability to read and interpret land use and planning documents, and an understanding of municipal finance.  Education and/or experience in municipal management is preferred, but relatable experience in other professions will also be considered.

In addition to the statutory functions, Turner’s Town Manager also oversees or is liaison with the town’s Planning Board, Budget Committee, Cemeteries, General Assistance program, and town buildings/facilities.  Experience in bidding/contracting and project management is desirable.

The Selectmen anticipate the current Town Manager will assist with onboarding the selected candidate, in a consulting role as needed.

To be considered, please submit a detailed resume, with references and salary requirements, by Friday, December 6.  Materials may be sent in confidence to:  Town Manager Search, Turner Board of Selectmen, 11 Turner Center Road, Turner, ME 04282.

The Town of Turner is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
