DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS
The City of Augusta has an immediate opening for a full-time 40 hours a week office deputy director of public works. The deputy director will perform a variety of support duties as directed by the Public Works Director. This position provides general supervision of both Public Works and Hatch Hill Landfill operations and personnel. Duties entail directing the construction and maintaining of streets during summer and winter operations through snow removal, solid waste collection, paving and maintaining of streets and sidewalks. Other duties include assigning daily work to supervisors and work crews, providing information for and managing department budgets, inventory, equipment maintenance and purchasing, and more.
Deputy Director will assume the role of Public Works Director on occasion and as assigned. Supports and assists in administrative functions such as: payroll, operating budgets, purchasing and project management. Provides estimates as needed for projects. The Deputy Director will also manage staffing of positions by way of identifying hiring needs, conducting and overseeing the training and development of staff as well as managing employee performance.
Hours are typically during the daytime but do flex as needed for winter operations or other weather or city emergent related needs.
Qualified candidates will possess Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent of advanced schooling in construction management and six years of experience in Public Works with at least five of which were in a supervisory capacity.
