Human Resources (Benefit) Specialist


The City of Augusta is seeking a Human Resources Specialist to administrate employee benefits, enrollment and benefit changes for active and retired city employees. In addition, this position manages and processes, worker’s compensation claims, unemployment claims, and performs salary and changes to positions in the MUNIS HR/Payroll system. Provides support to recruit and post vacancies, performs new hire orientation. Other management functions such as federal and state compliance related duties, labor relations duties, related year-end reporting, changes in positions or job duties and other related personnel functions. This position requires considerable independence, though work is expected to adhere to established standards and guidelines.


Education: Associate’s degree in business or related field and a minimum of four years of experience. A combination of education and experience will be considered. PHR/ SPHR or SHRM CP or SCP desired, municipal experience strongly desired.

Candidate must have: Solid written and verbal communication skills, knowledge and experience in public personnel administration, ability to maintain confidentiality as needed for various HR functions such as, processing of medical leaves, handling personnel matters and more.


This is a full-time, exempt, non-union position with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical insurance, a pension, and generous paid time off. 

Pay scale is NU 17 $20.58 to $25.72 per hour, depending on the related knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate.
