Codes Enforcement Officer

Bath, Maine has steadily gained national recognition as an ideal location to live, work, and play.  The Codes Enforcement Officer has a unique opportunity to ensure Bath’s growth is done safely and in alignment with local codes and State laws for building construction and renovations, at commercial and residential properties. The position is integral in permitting and plan review for new developments and redevelopments.  The position is a part of the Planning and Development Team, working closely with the City Manager and Department Directors and supervising an Assistant CEO.

The ideal candidate will ensure the health and safety of the public. They effectively work with the public and understand a variety of perspectives. A qualified candidate has the ability to achieve state code enforcement certification; has thorough knowledge of laws and standards relating to construction, land use, and safety; and a degree and/or five years of experience in a related field. Previous experience in public service or municipal code enforcement is preferred.

Starting salary range is $72,000-83,000, depending on experience. The City offers MPERS and excellent health and wellness benefits.
