TOWN OF BUCKSPORT, MAINE
A Town of approximately 5,000 residents located 18 miles from Belfast, Ellsworth, and the Bangor/Brewer region, Bucksport, Maine is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Fire Chief. This strong combination department consists of 7 full-time personnel, including the Chief and approximately 25 paid-on-call employees. Candidates must have ten (10) years of experience in Fire and Emergency Medical Services work with five (5) years in a supervisory capacity. Must have experience in an organization that provides a combination Fire/EMS department. Required to be Fire Fighter I and II certified. The candidate will be HAZMAT Operations certified, current with ICS & NIMS Standards, possess a valid Driver’s license, (CDL preferable) . Additionally, the ideal candidate must be EMT certified, preference to paramedic certification.
The Bucksport Fire Chief is responsible for effectively managing the operations of the Fire and EMS Department to include the protection of life and property in fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical services, and emergency management operations.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to, budget development and strict adherence to its management, effective personnel management, grant applications, EMS & Fire operations management, Emergency Management and incident command. The successful candidate will function as a Firefighter/EMT-(P) as required by the situation and staffing levels and will exhibit proficient knowledge and understanding of Fire Rescue, EMS, Emergency Management and incident command systems, fire, rescue, and medical training, NFPA codes (including 101 Life Safety), inspections and standards, and be computer literate.
Graduate from a college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, or related degree or equivalent training and experience. The salary will depend on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
