The Town of Naples, Maine, (pop. 3,900 winter, 10,000+ summer) is seeking a responsive and energetic Planner. Naples is a tourist community known as the Heart of the Lakes Region with shores on multiple large and highly utilized waterbodies.
This position, working closely with the Code Enforcement Officer and associated Boards, serves as the Planner for the municipality. Reporting directly to the Town Manager, the Planner makes long- and short-term plans/goals for the use of land in Naples. This position will keep in mind the future needs of the municipality’s population and recommend placement of various infrastructures, residential and commercial developments and analytically present the best ways to develop urban resources while considering environmental protections and impacts. This position will also assist in economic development opportunities, support business retention, and local marketing.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated professional who enjoys working with the public and who has excellent writing, public presentation, and communication skills.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in Urban Planning, Public Management, Economic Development or related field; have 2+ years of professional experience in the planning field and experience interacting with public boards; be knowledgeable of Maine Land Use Laws including Shoreland and Subdivision.
