TOWN CLERK POSITION -
Town of Byron is seeking to fill the part-time position of Town Clerk and Deputy Treasurer/Tax Collector.
Overview: This position is responsible for coordination of elections and voter registration in accordance with applicable laws of the State of Maine. Work involves assisting with collection and recording of payments and fees as they relate to the office of the Town Clerk/Treasurer/Tax Collector; the issuance of various licenses, certificates, permits, and maintaining the information system for the Town’s official records. The employee will also assist in the full-service accounting tasks including but not limited to: accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, internal auditing and controls, collection of real estate property taxes, vehicle excise tax and registrations, boat registrations, hunting/fishing licenses, and other counter work. This position works closely with the Select Board to prepare the annual operating and capital budget, the Town Report and Audit Preparation, using QuickBooks software. Candidate should have a working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles; HR/Payroll principles, and the ability to handle cash. Previous experience in a municipal office is preferred but not required.
Requirements: This position requires strong interpersonal and customer service skills; organizational skills with close attention to detail; and attentiveness to following through with both daily tasks and with requests from the public; and the ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters of Town business.
Benefits: Hourly wage starting at $15.00/hour, Paid holidays.
