GENERAL INFORMATION:

Department: Public Works

Division: Highway

Barg. Unit: AFSCME- Public Works Unit

Status: Full-Time 40+ hours/week

Grade: 3 ($17.00/hour)

SUMMARY: The Highway Worker performs a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks, operates trucks and other related equipment as needed for necessary roadway repairs and projects.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent GED, plus three (3) years experience in heavy construction. Must have a valid State of Maine Class B driver’s license (Class A preferred).

WORK ACTIVITIES: Must be qualified to perform a variety of street, storm drainage, parking lot and sidewalk maintenance and construction projects. Will mark and paint crosswalks, stop lines, and other traffic control markings. Sets up routine and emergency traffic control signage displaying working knowledge of dig-safe laws, MDOT and MUTCD requirements and other safety regulations. Completes construction and paving inspections; may at times act as a crew leader for various street and sidewalk maintenance operations. Participates in lawn repair, loam work, and winter operations such as snowplowing and snow removal. Will take part in ongoing training regarding equipment skills and other operations. Performs other duties as assigned.
