Seasonal Environmental Awareness and Maintenance Worker – 30-40 Hours Per Week
The Town of Wells is currently accepting applications for (2) Seasonal Environmental Awareness and Maintenance Workers. Employee is responsible for assisting with waterfront cleaning and beach maintenance operations, including the protection of endangered bird species for the Town’s waterfront facilities and Harbor Park.
Work includes monitoring or “spotting” in an environmentally responsible manner, as per the Town’s 2015 Beach Management Agreement, endangered bird populations (Piping Plover, Red Knot and Least Terns) during cleaning operations and when vehicles are present to ensure nest and population safety. Work also includes interacting with and educating the public about the ongoing efforts of protecting the Piping Plover and other endangered species. Work will include the removal of seaweed by hand raking, properly disposing of litter and carrying out other assigned waterfront cleaning maintenance services. Work may include early mornings (4:30AM-7:00AM) and some weekend work is required as “spotting work” will be needed when the beach is being cleaned, but work is typically performed between 7AM-3PM.
Minimum Requirements: Must have: Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record; HS diploma or equivalent; demonstrated environmental awareness and/or course work in the area of marine wildlife, endangered bird populations, and/or habitat conservation; ability to work flexible hours and during weekends from May-August; ability to safely operate light equipment to include beach tractor and other equipment; ability to interact effectively with volunteers, co-workers, property owners and the public; and the ability to work outdoors and to routinely lift up to 50 pounds.
Seasonal Lawn Care – 32 Hours Per Week
The Town of Wells is currently accepting applications for seasonal lawn care maintenance workers to assist in performing lawn care maintenance for the Town during the summer season.
This temporary, part-time, position will work an average of 32 hours per week, starting in approximately late June, until the end of September/early October. Hours will be flexible and weekend work may be required.
Minimum Requirements: Must have valid driver’s license, clean driving record and ability to operate light equipment, including lawn care equipment. Must be able to work flexible hours during the week and work on weekends if required. Relevant experience with lawn care, grounds maintenance and light equipment operation is preferred.
Seasonal Laborer – Veteran Graveside Maintenance – 30 Hours Per Week
The Town of Wells is currently accepting application for an individual to assist in maintaining veteran gravesites, perform minor repair work, and carry out seasonal gardening, landscaping and beautification initiatives to include planting, restoring and maintaining designated roadside areas. Applicants should have respect and appreciation for the importance of ongoing veteran gravesite maintenance; ability to safely use Town-provided light equipment; physical agility to move over varying terrain to reach and repair gravesites and to undertake landscaping beautification initiatives, which may include bending, stooping, reaching, and climbing for extended periods in varying weather conditions; ability to travel locally to various sites throughout the day; ability to work flexible, varied hours during the May-September summer season.
Seasonal Waterfront Maintenance – 20-24 Hours Per Week
The Town of Wells is currently seeking applicants for seasonal waterfront maintenance workers to assist with the maintenance and cleaning operations of waterfront facilities and Harbor Park. Using town owned equipment, individuals in this position will pick up and dispose of litter and trash, clear beach areas by removing seaweed and other debris, maintains cleanliness of Harbor Park and carries out other waterfront maintenance services as needed and assigned.
Minimum Requirements: Must be at least age 18 with relevant knowledge and experience in grounds maintenance and light equipment operation. Position requires the ability to work flexible hours, typically including alternating weekends through September. Must be able to safely operate light equipment including driving a small farm tractor with some attachments, have demonstrated ability to interact cooperatively within a team, have good customer service skills in dealing courteously with property owners and the public, be able to work outdoors and lift up to 50 pounds; must possess a valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
