GENERAL INFORMATION:            Department:     Administration

Barg. Unit:       Non-Union

Status:              Full-Time, Hourly (37.5 hours/week)

Grade:              5 ($26.64 - $38.97/hour)

Schedule:         Mon.-Fri. 8:00am – 4:30pm

SUMMARY: Performs a wide range of public relations activities. Serves as a general liaison between Mayor/City Council and City Administration.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in communication, public relations, marketing, or related field is preferred or five (5) years public relations experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must obtain a thorough understanding of City polices and procedures and utilize appropriate judgement with regard to confidentiality, newsworthiness, and social media content. Must be capable of working on multiple projects at once and able to meet various deadlines.

WORK ACTIVITIES: Work closely with City Administration to prepare reports, presentations and time-sensitive materials. Engage with members of the public, other municipalities, businesses, and local, state and national elected officials. Coordinate information between municipal staff, department leaders and various media outlets, as necessary. Assist with writing and distribution of municipal press releases and social media posts. Maintain and update the City’s website, including the public messaging system for emergency alerts, parking bans, road closures and public health notices. Maintain City social media pages: write posts, record video, edit content, provide timely responses, and conduct analytics. Represent the City on committees such as the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council, Lewiston Area Public Health Committee and Mayoral ad hoc committee(s). Maintain working knowledge of office protocol, budgets, payroll and accounts payable processes. Provide general administrative office coverage and act as a payroll processing alternate. Perform other duties, as assigned.
