                                                                                                     Knox County Emergency Management Agency

The Knox County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) supports countywide emergency responses when a disaster or emergency incident extends beyond the normal mutual aid boundaries of the affected community, several communities or is regional. During emergencies and planned events, the Knox County Emergency Operations Center is activated to provide coordination and resource support along with a range of other services to assist municipalities and area residents.

 

Overview & Schedule

The part-time EMA Planner will join our Emergency Management Agency to support the team to conduct emergency management planning, receive and/or deliver training on a variety of subjects, and complete special projects.

This is a part-time position at 20 hours per week. This position will have a fairly regular schedule but will require occasional evenings and weekend hours based on storms or other EOC activations.

 

Qualifications

  • High School (or equivalent) and Associates degree or higher in a related field. The post-secondary education requirement may be substituted by relevant field experience as outlined above.
  • The EMA Planner is required to have completed specified National Incident Management System, Incident Command courses.
  • Maine Basic Emergency Manager credentials. If certification is not held, certification must be substantially completed prior to hire with certification achieved within one year. 
  • Must hold a valid Class C or higher Maine Motor Vehicle Operators License with no major infractions and must pass a criminal background check. 
  • Must have experience writing emergency plans, and developing and executing exercises.

Applicants must have a demonstrated ability and experience in increasingly responsible positions of leadership in emergency response, public health, education, military or emergency management related fields. Must be comfortable working with larger equipment such as generators, ¾ ton trucks, towing trailers, etc.

 

Compensation

The starting hourly pay range is $20.10 - $23.55, depending on closely-related experience. Position is entitled to sick and vacation accruals, paid holidays, Earned Paid Leave and Knox County’s Employee Assistance Program.
