The Town of Windham Fire-Rescue Department has four immediate openings for new Firefighter/EMT (Paramedic, Advanced, Basic all encouraged to apply) response positions The Fire-Rescue Department is seeking highly motivated, flexible, and passionate Firefighter/EMT’s to join our combination department. Our department serves 50 square miles, responding to 3,900 Fire-EMS calls for service both in Windham and surrounding communities annually from two staffed and two call company stations.

 Successful candidates will join a shift working 24 on, 48 off, 24 on, 96 Off rotating schedule. Benefits include Maine State Retirement Plan 3c. Medical insurance employee 90% coverage and dependent 75% coverage and with employee 100% dental coverage as well as disability and life insurance options. Other benefits include clothing allowance and cell phone stipend. We have 13 paid holidays including 2 premium holidays per year. Hourly base rates for the following three license levels are Firefighter/Paramedic   $27.33 -$31.94 , Firefighter/EMT-Advanced  $25.48 - $30.07 , and Firefighter/EMT-Basic  $23.63 - $28.19. The hourly rate is also subject to additional stipends. Payrates may also be adjusted based on lateral transfer.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands: 

Strenuous physical effort required; must frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds and occasionally move and/or lift minimally 50 pounds; frequently more.  May work near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and may occasionally be exposed to wet and or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. Work is often performed in emergency and stressful situations. Hazards associated with fighting fires and emergency medical operations including; smoke, noxious odors, fumes, chemicals, liquid chemicals, solvents, oils, blood borne and air borne diseases and other potentially infectious materials. May be exposed to loud noises at emergency scenes. Work is performed primarily in the station, vehicles and outdoor settings, in all weather conditions, including temperature extremes, day and night.

Frequently required to sit, talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach over head with hands and arms in order to perform the essential functions of the position. Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and/or smell. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
