The Town of Buxton is accepting applications for an experienced Mechanic in our Public Works Department. The Town Mechanic is responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the Public Works fleet of vehicles and other town vehicles as requested, and must be experienced in the operation of dump trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, snowplows and sanders. An active Maine CDL Class B Driver's License is preferred. Applicant must have and maintain a clean driving record. Must have sufficient strength and agility to perform heavy manual labor including the duties of mechanic and operating heavy equipment, and other duties assigned by the Public Works Director. Computer knowledge is preferred. Pay rate starts at $27.00 per hour.
Requirements
1. High-School diploma or equivalent, skilled in truck mechanics;
2. Must be State Licensed for State of Maine Inspection for trucks and trailers;
3. Must maintain a Maine Commercial Driver’s License (CDL); preferred
4. Must have 5 years or more experience as a mechanic
5. Must have the ability to drive snow plow truck to plow snow and sand Town roads and municipal parking lots as required;
8. Experience and skills to operate heavy equipment: grader, backhoe and bulldozer;
9. Sufficient strength and agility to perform heavy manual labor duties such as lifting, shoveling dirt and snow, raking roadsides, installing culverts and operating a chainsaw for brush and tree removal from roadways or Town owned property for long periods of time in adverse climatic conditions;
10. Working knowledge of hazards and applicable safety precautions of work being performed; and
11. Must have and maintain a good driving record.
