The Kennebunkport Police Department is accepting applications for the Police Officer position. We are a coastal town with seasonal residential influxes and an engaged community whose values are based on mutual support. The Police Department is searching for an enthusiastic, dedicated, and positive individual to join its force.

Are you a Maine State Certified Police Officer or a certified Police Officer from another state who can obtain Maine State Certification within two months of the date of hire? If yes, then this opportunity is for you! The Town is offering a very generous bonus as follows:


For full-time officer certification with 2 years of experience - $5,000

For full-time officer certification with 3 to 4 years of experience - $10,000

For full-time officer certification with 5+ years of experience - $15,000


The Town of Kennebunkport offers a start rate of $34.08/h, potential lateral entry up to $36.17/h for 10 years of experience, and an excellent benefits package, including a 20-year/no-age retirement under MePERS, health insurance, and disability insurance. All benefits work toward a healthy environment stimulating personal growth. Officers with previous years of experience may also be considered for the starting hourly wage.

All applicants must be a high school graduate or hold a GED and be at least 21 years of age, have or are able to obtain a Maine driver’s license, and have completed Phase I and Phase II or meet the equivalent of the pre-service program at the time of conditional offer of hire. The applicant must be of good moral character and be able to pass an oral board, a thorough background investigation, physical examination, drug test, physical agility test (if attending full academy), polygraph, and psychological exam. A college degree/or equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred, but all applicable training and experience may be considered. Police officers must be able to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
