Each County in Maine has its own Probate Court. Probate Courts handle legal cases concerning wills and estates, guardianships, name changes and a few other family-related issues.
Overview & Schedule
The Probate Office Assistant is a part-time, temporary position as 20-25 hours per week beginning June 2024 and ending December 2024, with an option to continue. The position is responsible for various clerical and other general office duties, including data entry, customer service, scanning both current and past documents and files, filing, processing mail, preparing forms, and copying, and processing passports.
The schedule is Monday – Friday and will be a part-time position at 20-25 hours per week.
Qualifications
- One to two years of general office experience demonstrating office skills and the ability to follow complicated procedures.
- Experience in customer service and/or dealing with the public required.
- The Probate Court is a Court that operates according to the Maine Rules of Probate Court and the office assistant is responsible for recording documents and handling individual matters prior to filing. Good judgment and some decision-making abilities are important for this position.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Detail oriented.
- Skilled in the use of Windows and Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
- Ability to be bonded.
Compensation
The starting hourly pay range is $17.37 - $20.25, depending on closely-related experience. The County provides an Employee Assistance Program and paid holidays.
