The Scarborough Police Department is accepting applications for a designated School Crossing Guard position which covers Blue Point Primary School on Rt. 9. This position is responsible for being present for the designated start and release of students during the Blue Point School Primary Hours during the school year.

The Town of Scarborough’s School Crossing Guard monitors street crossing during appointed time when students arrive and depart at designated school start and end times. Crossing Guards monitor the flow of traffic and act within Statutory regulations for stopping vehicle traffic to ensure the safe passage of students on roadways and sidewalks.

A successful candidate will be able to provide safe crossing of school children in designated school crossing zones.  The candidate must be able to act quickly, calmly and decisively in situations involving the safety of school children.  They must be attentive and able to act quickly due to changing circumstances.

The candidate must be able to stand, walk, and communicate, and be able to hold traffic control devices for periods of time.  The candidate must be able to work in changing weather conditions.

Selection Guidelines:

Applicants can expect to be interviewed by Command Staff from the Scarborough Police Department.

The selection process will require the candidate to undertake vision and hearing screening as well as submit to a background check and submission of fingerprints.

If a candidate does not have experience, the Scarborough Police will train the candidate on current traffic control and safety procedures.
