The National Civic League is accepting applications for the 2024 All-American City Award. Since 1949, over 500 communities have been bestowed this honor, including the five Maine municipalities of Auburn, Lewiston, Portland, Presque Isle, and South Portland.  Ready to make it six Maine communities?  Well, here is your opportunity.  This is year’s theme is “Strengthening Democracy through Local Action and Innovation.”  To that end, the National Civic League is searching for towns, cities and plantations that are implementing innovative ways to equitably engage community members in activities that strengthen democratic processes, like making it easier to vote, engage in community affairs, and serve in leadership roles.  Communities interested in applying for the award must submit a letter of intent by December 14, 2023.  The application, which can be downloaded here, is due on February 13, 2024.  Twenty finalists will be named in March of 2024 and invited to attend the All-America City Award event in Denver, CO in June, during which the ten winners will be announced.
