City of Augusta-Payroll Specialist
The Audit Department is seeking a Payroll Specialist in processing payroll transactions and maintaining records. Responsibilities include ensuring the timely and accurate submission and processing of payrolls for all City and employees. This position also coordinates receipt of data, calculates special payments (overtime, shift differential, benefit and leave calculations, etc.), verifies the accuracy of and enters data into an automated payroll system, answers employee inquiries. Work involves verifying accuracy of, and entering data into automated system, answering questions, and resolving problems. Work is performed in adherence to established policies and procedures.
Additional responsibilities include processing retroactive adjustments to salaries and account codes, completing and processing various reports for pensions, year-end tax reporting such as W-2’s and other state/federal wage verifications, deductions, and wage attachments. Bank reconciliation and other Audit Department projects are also work responsibilities.
Hours
Monday thru Friday, 7:30am – 4:30pm.
Requirements
Ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, hold a degree or equivalent work experience in related field and have a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in payroll administration work. Valid Class C Maine driver’s license. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required.
Pay Scale
This is a Permanent Full-Time, non-exempt, union position.
