The City of South Portland is currently seeking a 37.5 hour a week full-time Adult Services Assistant to join our Library team. This is an opportunity to join a well-run city and play a part in serving our community. We are seeking a steady individual with solid library skills to collaborate with and act as a resource for Library patrons.

Position Summary: This position is responsible for delivering high quality library services to the users of the South Portland Public Library, with awareness of and adherence to the tenets of librarianship and intellectual freedom as articulated by the American Library Association.

Participates in the operations of the Adult and Lending Services division within the library, including the supervision of the department in the absence of the Adult Services Librarian. Responsible for maintaining service standards as established by the Library Director. All duties are performed in a patron-centered environment, making certain that services are delivered effectively, efficiently, and professionally to all users of the South Portland Public Library. All responsibilities require creativity and strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Adult Services Librarian. This position provides supervision to Library Aides, and volunteers, as needed.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. MLS/MLIS preferred.

Experience: Three (3) years of public library experience. Experience with Innovative Interface’s Sierra LSP strongly preferred.

Must have flexibility to work evening and/or weekend hours.

Salary Range: $25.32 – $28.86/hour ($49,374 - $56,277 annually) depending on experience.  This position is eligible for annual step increases, and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City Council.
