South Portland Parks, Recreation & Waterfront is currently looking for a Site Leader in our Before and After School Program, leading activities and providing staff supervision and care for children in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. This position will work in a South Portland Public School under the direction of the Recreation Manager. The School Age Site Leader will also work with our Vacation Camps, Teacher Workshop Days, Early Release Day programs and in the Summer will be a Director of one location of our Summer Recreation Camp.

This is a non-union position that assists with the supervision and implementation of school age recreation programs and events and other tasks as assigned. This is a regular full-time position working 37.5 hours a week, Monday – Friday during the school year. Hours include early mornings and late afternoons with a mid-day break (hours may vary during school vacation weeks, in-service days and teacher workshop days).  During the summer months, this position will serve as a Summer Recreation Camp Director.

Nature of Work: Plan, lead and supervise the provision of a safe, enjoyable recreational and enrichment experience for children in the community participating in the Before and After-School programs, vacation camps, and early release day programs, from September-June, and serve as a Summer Recreation Camp Program Leader, from June-August.

Supervision Received/ Exercised: Report directly to the Recreation Manager – Out of School Programming, the Deputy Director, and the Director of Parks, Recreation, & Waterfront.  Organize, direct and supervise the day-to-day work of Before-and-After-School staff and summer camp Counselors and Counselor Aides.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with school age children highly preferred.

Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid Certifications. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Maine Class “C” driver’s license throughout employment.

Must be mature, flexible and a good role model. Clean driving history is required.

Starting salary: The City of South Portland offers competitive pay, starting at $20.37/hour. The position is eligible for annual step increases, and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City Council.
