The Town of Berwick is accepting applications for the position of Community and Economic Development and Planning Director. This is a full-time, exempt position.
The Community and Economic & Planning Director plays a critical role in guiding the comprehensive development and well-being of a community. This multifaceted position combines responsibilities related to community development, economic growth, and town planning. The Director will lead and coordinate efforts to create a thriving, sustainable, and inclusive community by fostering economic prosperity, social equity, and responsible urban development.
The successful candidate must have the ability to:
- Read technical plans related to subdivision, site plan, etc.
- Give presentations and conduct public outreach efforts
- Research, compile, and summarize a variety of informational and statistical data and materials
- Organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction
- Apply logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks and to understand, interpret, and communicate complicated policies, procedures, and protocols
- Communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing
In addition, the successful candidate must have:
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of land use planning and its relationship to transportation and zoning issues
- Knowledge of applicable state, federal, and local laws, rules, and regulations
- Knowledge of methods and techniques of research, statistical analysis, and report presentation
- Knowledge of principles and practices of new urbanism, sustainability, complete streets, etc.
- Strong supervisory skills and decision-making abilities
- Considerable knowledge of and proficiency in current computer applications including Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of GIS: ESRI, CAD preferred
Experience and Education/Training:
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred in a field related to the job and required skills and knowledge; master’s degree in planning preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Five years of municipal experience in Planning, Community Development or Economic Development.
Licenses/Certifications/Other:
- Valid Class C Driver’s License
- AICP (desirable)
