Salary Range: $83,740 to $90,230 DOQE
 
The Town of Scarborough, Maine, is seeking an experienced and collaborative professional for the full-time position of Deputy Director of Public Works. This is a skilled senior management position requiring both administrative and technical experience. The Deputy Director will serve as a member of the Public Works’ senior management team and assist the Director in leading a department of approximately 30 full-time employees with a budget of $8 million (FY25). This person must possess the skills and demeanor to lead a dynamic and diverse department and affect change to keep the department modern and efficient. The Deputy Director will have authority to direct and oversee the department’s employees and daily activities through interaction with the Fleet Maintenance Division Shop Supervisor, the Operations Division Supervisor, and administrative staff. The deputy director works as a liaison between the director and supervisors to ensure conformity in departmental goals and objectives. 
 
This position will work directly with the Public Works Director on longer term strategic initiatives such as performance benchmarking, developing capital equipment and project schedules and other budget related items. Work is performed with considerable independence under the direction of the Public Works Director.
 
Job Requirements: Associate’s Degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred. Progressively responsible experience in a Public Works environment with five years of experience in a supervisory capacity is required. Strong computer skills, experience with Munis and City Works preferred. Education and/or experience with budget and financial processes in a municipal setting. Valid motor vehicle license with excellent driving record is required. Availability to work evenings and weekends. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town officials, employees, vendors, residents, and members of the general public. In lieu of the above, any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered at the discretion of the Town of Scarborough.
