The Town of Kennebunk’s Public Services Division is seeking a full-time Mechanic. The Mechanic repairs and maintains all Public Services heavy equipment, trucks, and other municipal automotive, construction, and related equipment.  Duties require performing various difficult repair tasks such as diagnosing complex equipment and fabrication malfunctions. The Mechanic may be utilized for winter maintenance duties as required. During winter and emergency events, the Mechanic is expected to work long hours that includes holidays and weekends.

As a CDL holder, the Mechanic is subject to random drug and alcohol testing as described in the Town of Kennebunk Drug and Alcohol Testing policy.

Position Requirements

  1. Graduation from a technical college or university with a degree in Mechanics or a closely related field;
  2. Valid motor vehicle driver’s license with a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or the ability to acquire a Class A Driver’s License within a specific time period determined by the Public Services Director required;
  3. Work experience in the maintenance and repairs of heavy and light equipment required;
  4. Work experience in diagnosing equipment and fabrication malfunctions preferred;
  5. Current inspection license for vehicle and heavy trucks preferred, or the ability to attain the inspection license within 6 months of employment required; or
  6. Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Additionally, the successful candidate must have their own set of Mechanic’s Tools and be prepared to use them on the job and store them at the Public Services Facility.

 

Pay & Benefits

This is an hourly, non-exempt, union position with a starting pay of $35.56/hour as prescribed by the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
