Pay Range:                   Base hourly rate based on Candidate Qualifications. (The new Employee may be a Parks Maintenance Operator = PMOI, PMOII, or PMOIII status)

Hourly Pay Rates:        PMO1=$22.29 p/hr.; PMOII=$23.52 p/hr.; PMOIII=$26.56 p/hr.  This position will receive stipends, as eligible, and per the Parks and Public Works                                                        Employee Association (Union) document.

The Town of Yarmouth is currently accepting applications to fill the position of Parks Maintenance Operator (I, II or III) to join the Parks Division team with Yarmouth Community Services.  The job description is available on the Town of Yarmouth website (under Human Resources).  

DESCRIPTION:  This position performs a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of parks and recreation buildings, grounds, athletic fields, parks, open spaces and conservation lands.  The regular work week is forty (40) hours per week.  New hourly rates were effective as of July 1, 2024, which are based on qualifications and position classification (I, II or III status). 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (See Job Description for full detail):

  • Mows and maintains all Town of Yarmouth spaces (I.E. athletic field, parks, lawns, building grounds, trails, open space and conservation lands). Maintains, weeds, trims flower beds, shrubs and trees.   
  • Operates specialized turf care equipment and tools such as electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems.
  • All job tasks associated with planting in Town spaces (I.E. seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and pest/weed control. 
  • Maintains winter facilities and functions: ice rink flooding, sweeping and plowing and XC ski trails.
  • Operates all Parks equipment: tractors, mowers, trucks, trimmers, chain saws, steam cleaners, washers, and other equipment as needed.
  • Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed. 
  • Assists with setting up/taking down equipment for various park and recreation programs, prepares facilities for athletic events and parks and recreation program use.
  • Installs/maintains goal posts and nets for all sports facilities (soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, baseball, softball, tennis, pickleball, and basketball).
  • Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work.
 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Continued):

  • Performs some custodial work as required and assigned. Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds; picks up litter from premises.
  • Assists in the construction of new parks facilities, including clearing, grading, drainage, and foundation work.  Assists in the construction and installation of playground equipment, safety surfacing, benches, tables, kiosks, etc.
  • Routinely assigned to assist the Highway Division with winter maintenance.  Performs snow plowing and shovels sidewalks.
  • Performs other work as required or assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent; specialized course work in athletic field maintenance, groundskeeping, landscaping, or related field helpful. Two (2) years of related landscaping and/or maintenance work; or any combination of related education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform this work.
  • Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance functions.
  • A State of Maine Class C Driver’s License in good standing.  A Commercial Driver’s License is helpful, but not required. 
  • A strong work ethic and dedication to customer service is a must.
  • Successful completion of a six-month probationary period.
