The City of Biddeford greatly values employee wellness and work/life balance. Many of our positions, including all positions in City Hall, have a four-day, 36 hour work week (Fridays off!) with flexible scheduling and remote opportunities one day per week.

We are seeking a highly organized and proactive individual to fill the role of Safety and Training Coordinator. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of our workforce through effective management of workers' compensation, coordination of City-wide training initiatives, and implementation of wellness programs. This position offers a unique opportunity to learn and grow within the field of occupational safety, training and wellness.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Workers' Compensation Management:
    • Administer workers' compensation claims and ensure compliance with legal and organizational requirements.
    • Work closely with insurance providers, medical professionals, and legal counsel to facilitate claims processing and resolution.
    • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to workers' compensation incidents and claims.
  • Training Coordination:
    • Develop and implement comprehensive training programs to enhance employee safety, job skills, and compliance with regulations.
    • Coordinate training sessions across various departments, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
    • Evaluate training effectiveness and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Wellness Program Administration:
    • Design and manage wellness initiatives aimed at promoting employee health, reducing workplace injuries, and improving overall well-being.
    • Collaborate with HR and health professionals to develop wellness policies, initiatives, and resources.
    • Monitor participation and effectiveness of wellness programs through data analysis and employee feedback.
  • Safety Compliance and Risk Management:
    • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure adherence to safety standards.
    • Develop and implement safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and risk mitigation strategies.
    • Investigate workplace incidents and accidents, analyze root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Serve as a resource and advisor on safety, workers' compensation, and wellness matters to department heads, supervisors, and employees.
    • Foster a culture of safety and wellness through effective communication, training sessions, and awareness campaigns.
    • Collaborate with external agencies, vendors, and community partners to leverage resources and best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • A willingness to demonstrate a commitment to the City of Biddeford's work around diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Risk Management, Human Resources, or related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience conducting group trainings and maintain employee safety.
  • Basic knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to safety, training and workers' compensation.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
