Trades Worker - Family Shelter

 

The City of Portland is actively seeking a qualified and enthusiastic candidate to fill an opening for a Trades Worker within Social Services. This individual should have significant prior experience with carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and electrical trades work to perform repair work on City buildings, grounds, fences, and equipment. The Trades Worker III will report to the Facilities Manager.

 

Qualified candidates will additionally meet the following criteria:

 

• Hold a valid Class C Maine Driver’s License.

• Ability to obtain state licensure or certifications as needed.

• Demonstrated ability to perform carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and masonry repairs, with sufficient knowledge of hand and bench tools necessary for each project, as well as the ability to teach others.

• Ability to lead and complete basic construction projects, including ability to oversee a team and the project to completion.

• Ability to work independently and remain focused on multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.

• Working knowledge of the best practices for removal of lead paint, asbestos, mold, and other environmental hazards.

• Basic knowledge of welding with qualifications to be certified.

Salary & Benefits:

 

This is a union position, Labor & Trades (Grade 51) - Starting pay is $24.33/hr.
