Status: Full-Time (40+ hours/week)
Grade: 3/4/5 [$21.88 - $27.13/hour] Depending on driver’s license, water operator’s license, and years of experience.
SUMMARY: Public Works Water and Sewer workers are flexible, motivated laborers that have a direct impact on the overall maintenance of various water and sewer related systems within the city.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must have a High School Diploma, or equivalent. 3+ years experience preferred, but willing to train the right candidate in construction, maintenance of water and sewer infrastructure including training in confined space, trenching and excavation. A valid Class B Maine Driver’s License (Class A license preferred) with the ability to obtain “N” tank vehicle endorsement is required. If not currently licensed as Class B operator, must be able to obtain within first six (6) months of employment. In-house training for CDL is provided.
WORK ACTIVITIES: The Water and Sewer worker will perform a variety of water & sewer-related construction and maintenance duties including, but not limited to: installation and repair of water mains, meters, hydrants, and manholes; drive trucks and operate equipment; install and operate fire hydrants; install emergency traffic control signs; operate sewer flushing and rodding units; perform locates for water and sewer infrastructure; and read, test, check, repair, and install water meters. Must have the ability to obtain State of Maine Water Distribution Class II Operators License. Training for this will be provided. All Water and Sewer Workers must be available for emergency response in all seasons, including after normal working hours for water, sewer and snow removal operations.
