The City of Saco is hiring an Advanced Mechanic for our Public Works Department to join our garage. This position involves skilled work in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, as well as various types of powered and non-powered equipment. You’ll handle a range of responsibilities, from diagnostics and repairs to preventive maintenance, ensuring our fleet and equipment remain safe and functional.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct preventative maintenance, state safety inspections, and general repairs with minimal supervision.
  • Perform diagnostics, repairs, disassembly, and assembly on electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems, parts, and engines.
  • Keep accurate records of parts and tools for equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness in the garage and around department facilities.
  • Assist in winter operations as needed.
  • Work scheduled and non-scheduled overtime as required.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in mechanical maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to work independently and handle unexpected repair needs with urgency and efficiency.

Employees work a 40-hour per week schedule, Monday-Friday from 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Must be available to  work overtime when needed.
