The City of Presque Isle, Maine is accepting applications for the position of Assistant City Manager, who will serve as an integral part of the leadership team. The Star City has a resident population of 9,000 and covers 72 square miles, and the City of Presque Isle makes significant contributions to the quality of life for its citizens.
The Assistant City Manager will provide leadership, direction, and general administrative oversight to the Office of Innovation and Development, and shall be the acting City Manager as appointed. Responsibilities will include significant community engagement and public involvement with elected officials, other policy makers, and citizens.
The Innovation Team manages creative, large-scale, high impact, and cross-departmental projects, externally facing partnership initiatives, and grants, all of which focus on generating revenue and improving operational efficiencies. Projects often address risk management and safety, sustainability, and technology.
Qualifications needed for this position include a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Economic Development or another related field, and at least five years of progressively responsible management-level and leadership experience (or the equivalent combination of education and experience). Preferred qualifications include 1) a significant record of responsibility for general fiscal management, grants procurement, capital budget management, and strategic planning; 2) experience in a community with active citizen involvement and experiencing significant growth; 3) a record of effective work with elected officials, advisory boards, community and environmental groups; and 4) exhibiting creativity and innovation in programs and processes. Candidates should also have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills, and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite tools including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The successful candidate must be able to successfully pass a thorough background check, including a credit check.
The position offers a comprehensive pay and benefits package including:
- Starting wage $77,376 - $97,760 based on experience
- Employee and family medical health coverage – the City pays 80% (currently over $9000/year) toward single coverage, and 70% (currently over $17,000) toward family coverage, and provides a health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) for deductibles and co-pays of up to $3600 for individual coverage and up to $7200 for family coverage.
- Paid vacation, sick, 13.5 holidays, and two personal days per year
- Social Security PLUS Maine Public Employees Retirement System or ICMA 401(a)/457(b), with a City contribution from 7.0 - 9.9%
