The City of South Portland is currently seeking a 37.5 hour a week full-time Application Support  Specialist to join our Information Systems (IS) Department. Position Summary: The Application Support Specialist provides direct support for the City of South Portland application services across the enterprise, including design and implementation. This position  resolves and appropriately completes assigned cases and change requests and acts as an escalation point for application support issues. Key responsibilities include research, recommending and applying  new solutions through collaboration with city departments, determining courses of action for new technology initiatives, and recommending and implementing new hardware/software solutions as required by the City.

Duties include customer support of Enterprise Municipal Application systems such as MUNIS, Google Workspace, Microsoft Desktop Technologies, GIS applications, and other cloud-based software integrations such as CIVICGOV. This includes top-level support for enterprise-wide application initiatives and collaborates with vendor support services when needed.

Provides hands-on technology support assisting the IT Department to solve general IT Helpdesk support issues. This includes troubleshooting problems to resolve application and hardware issues, perform operational testing on system applications, configure end user  interfaces,  install and upgrade software for users.

The Application Support Specialist needs to be available for on-call duty for 7 days at a time,  approximately every three to five weeks, by phone to aid in resolving Help Desk support issues.  The Application Support Specialist is also required to attend  occasional off shift staff meetings and work during emergencies and outages. 

Education: Associates Degree required, Bachelor’s degree or equivalent highly preferred. Requires 2+ years of directly relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in the absence of a degree.  Application and/or IT Industry Certifications highly preferred. 

Experience: 2+ years of experience in direct application support including  integration/interfaces, report-writing tools and/or implementation. Google Admin Certifications and Comp TIA  Industry Certifications preferred.  

Understanding of Municipal Financial Application Suite(s) is highly preferred. 

Experience with Google Workspace Administration, Emergency services software suites and mobile solutions, Active Directory and Microsoft IIS services, ESRI ARCGIS Suite, and basic understanding of Computer Desktop/ Network operation is all preferred.

Salary Range: $31.46 – $35.85/hour ($61,347-$69,907 annually) depending on experience. This position  is eligible for annual step increases, and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City  Council.
