Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks a Director of Actuarial & Legislative Affairs to join our senior management team. This position serves as the primary liaison with the legislature, constituent groups, state agencies and the Governor’s office on legislative issues. Work includes preparing and presenting formal testimony and informal information to legislative committees and other groups as required. This position also serves as the liaison working with the MainePERS’ retained actuarial firm and managing requests for information and costing of proposed changes. Work is performed under the general direction of the Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel. MainePERS offers a hybrid work schedule option for this position, with approximately 50% of the work performed on-site in our Augusta office.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with five years of relevant experience, preferably in a retirement system or other public entity. Extensive experience in a relevant field will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Senior management level experience
  • Government relations experience
  • Demonstrated excellent communications skills, oral and written
  • Demonstrated analytical skills
  • Experience in drafting, reviewing and presenting testimony regarding legislation and rules in the State of Maine
  • Experience with actuarial issues
