The City of Ellsworth has an amazing opportunity for a Firefighter/EMT within our evolving Fire Department.

The Ellsworth Fire Department is establishing an eligibility list for the position of Firefighter/EMT for anticipated openings in FY 2025.

The Ellsworth Fire Department is a Fire/EMS system providing both fire suppression and EMS response to the City of Ellsworth. Ellsworth Firefighters currently work a 42-hour schedule (1 on, 1 off, 1 on, 5 days off). As a department, we are focused on training, wellness, and a positive culture. The City of Ellsworth is a fast-growing community with its needs ever evolving. The ideal Firefighter/EMT will have experience working as both a firefighter and EMT. Our department is very fast paced, responding to over 2100 emergency calls in 2023 within the 97 square miles of Ellsworth’s both rural and urban settings. We work closely with neighboring communities, priding ourselves on our ability to provide and utilize mutual / automatic aid.

• Starting salary range $59,208 - $63,772 inclusive of EMS incentive pay for FF/Advance EMT or FF/Paramedic.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Possession of Maine Firefighter II or equivalent IFSAC/ ProBoard

• Minimum State of Maine EMT-B license or the ability to obtain reciprocity

• Valid Driver’s License

• Meets NIMS requirements for firefighters (ICS 100,200, 700)

• Ability to successfully pass a background investigation, medical screening prior to employment and thereafter in intervals determined by the Ellsworth Fire Department

• Must have experience in dealing with the public, good communication and computer skills

• Must undergo an extensive written Firefighter and EMS exam, practical medical knowledge test, physical assessment.

 

PREFERRED (Preference will be given to applicants with the following additional certifications):

• Minimum of 5 years Fire service experience (3 years career recommended)

• EMT-A (or Paramedic) license

• Fire Instructor I/II or equivalent

• Fire Officer I/II or equivalent

 

WORK SCHEDULE:

• This is a full-time, Union position. Scheduled hours a 42-hour schedule (1 on, 1 off, 1 on, 5 days off).

• The employee will be required to respond after hours in the event of a first alarm or greater incident, or at the discretion of the Fire Chief.

• The employee will be required to attend required meetings and training, at times scheduled outside regular working hours.
