The Town of Gorham Fire Rescue Department is seeking qualified Firefighter/Paramedics who are interested in joining our team! Individuals with EMT-Advanced and EMT-Basic level licenses are also welcome to apply. These positions are responsible for the delivery of firefighting and rescue services within the Town of Gorham and for agencies assisted by the Gorham Fire Rescue Department. Full-time Firefighter/EMTs work a twenty-four (24) hour shift from 0700 to 0700 and are paid on an 8-week average of 42 hours per payroll period. The work schedule is 24 hours on duty then 48 hours off duty then 24 hours on duty then 96 hours off duty.*

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  To be considered for employment, applicants must, at a minimum, possess a valid State of Maine EMT Basic (EMT-B) license. Advanced or Paramedic level license preferred. Minimum of State of Maine Firefighter II certification, or the ability and willingness to obtain the certification within 12 months of employment (will train the right candidate). HazMat Technician & Confined Space certification(s) preferred. Valid State of Maine Class C or higher Driver’s License required. Must pass a post-offer pre-placement physical exam, drug test, and comprehensive background screening process. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:  The Town of Gorham offers a comprehensive package of pay, benefits, and paid time off to eligible employees, including a choice between two excellent, affordable health insurance plans with a generous Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) to help cover the cost of out-of-pocket medical expenses, such as deductible and coinsurance. Individuals declining health coverage are eligible for an annual medical buyout of $1,200 in lieu of coverage. In addition to vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays per year, employees have access to dental, medical and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts, life insurance, short-term disability, training opportunities, and more. This position is eligible to choose between participating in the MainePERS Special Plan 3C defined benefit retirement plan (25 year, No-Age, 2/3 AFC) or the 457(b) deferred compensation retirement plan with a 7.5% employer match after six months.

Starting pay for EMT-B is $20.75-$25.71; EMT-Advanced is $22.67-$28.05; and Paramedic is $26.81-$32.04. Candidates may be credited with up to 10 years prior experience for purposes of determining starting pay rate. Candidates with a valid Maine Paramedic license at the time of hire are also eligible for a signing bonus up to $15,000, payable in installments to be determined by the Town.
