Barg. Unit:       AFSCME- Public Works Unit

Status:             Full-Time 40+ hours/week

Grade:             5 ($22.51/hour)

Additional hours may be required for events or emergencies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have a high school diploma, or equivalent, with a minimum five (5) years tree-related work experience preferred.

REQUIREMENTS: Qualified candidates must have a valid, State of Maine Class A driver’s license in good standing. Must have a valid State of Maine Arborist license or be able to obtain within 18 months of employment.

WORK ACTIVITIES: Perform a wide variety of landscaping maintenance and tree-related tasks. Operate trucks and equipment including bucket trucks, snow removal trucks/equipment, loaders, asphalt rollers, cranes, tractors and mowers, chainsaws, chippers, brush cutters and trimmers. Perform landscaping duties for public properties and areas, including planting, watering, weeding, fertilizing and lawn installation. Perform hardscaping tasks with materials such as bricks, cobblestones and pavers. May climb trees with appropriate safety equipment, install tree wells and complete tree well improvements. Identify trees, plant life, diseases and insects. Respond to calls and evaluate work to be performed. Take an active role in snow removal and snow plowing operations. Act as a Crew Leader for various sized crews. Perform other duties as required.
