The Town of Kennebunk is seeking a full-time Lieutenant for the Kennebunk Police Department (KPD). The Lieutenant position is an administrative and command level position involving the administration and supervision of Kennebunk Police Department (KPD) employees.
Additionally, this position is the Patrol Commander responsible for the administration, deployment, coordination, management, and supervision of patrol supervisors and officers, School Resource Officers (SROs), reserve officers, Animal Control Officers (ACOs) and Community Service Officers (CSOs). The Patrol Commander is also responsible for overseeing, investigating, and supervising responses to calls for service, as well as other matters assigned by the Chief of Police. The Commander conducts such duties and tasks in order to present efficient police services, as well as to manage and supervise the entire department work force.
Position Requirements
- Graduate of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy (or equivalent) Basic Supervision School.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required; Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Social Science, Management or a closely related field is preferred.
- Have a minimum of five (5) years police experience with at least three (3) years in a supervisory capacity at the rank of Sergeant or above.
- Possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
Salary
This is an exempt, non-union position and therefore does not qualify for overtime under the FLSA. The starting salary range is $79,544.42 – $95,952.68/year, Grade J of the Town’s non-union, exempt, pay ranges. Starting pay will be determined based on demonstrated knowledge, skills, abilities, and work experience.
