The Waterville Police Department is comprised of 32 sworn officers protecting a 13 square mile city in Central Maine.  The city has a population of approximately 16,000 and is home to Colby and Thomas Colleges, both of which bring a diverse population of future professionals to the community. We pride ourselves on being a forward thinking, well-trained, professional agency.  Our staff will assist you in the application process and facilitate the training process with the Maine Criminal Justice Academy to meet minimum training requirements for qualified candidates.

Starting pay is $27.22 per hour ($28.31 per hour as of July 1, 2025) and top step after six years of service is $36.58 per hour ($38.04 per hour as of July 1, 2025).  Year for year lateral entry is offered for those with full time law enforcement certification and experience for both pay and vacation.  Vacation begins at 1 week after 3 months of service and progresses to 5 weeks of vacation at 20 years of service.  Additionally, the city observes 12 paid holidays.

The Police Department offers a comprehensive benefits package including retirement through Maine Public Employees Retirement System of 2/3 pay after 25 years of service with a yearly cost of living adjustment.  Also offered is a weekly educational stipend with overtime differential based on the college degree.  The city provides contractually outlined tuition reimbursement for those wishing to continue their education while employed with the Police Department.
