The Public Works Department is seeking a dedicated and skilled Laborer/Operator 1 to join our team. This is your chance to be a part of essential services that keep our town running smoothly, from snow removal to street maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Equipment Operation: Skillfully operate trucks, sanders, and other necessary equipment for plowing, sanding, and snow removal.
  • Maintenance Duties: Participate in routine maintenance and repairs of department equipment, assist in curbside trash removal, and perform varied maintenance work such as rebuilding storm drains, mowing, and patching roads.
  • Emergency Response: Be available for emergency callouts as needed.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Time Management: Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
  • Public Interaction: Deal courteously with the public and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and community members.
  • Physical Capability: Be physically capable of sustained lifting, standing, crouching, climbing, and walking. Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally more than 80 pounds safely.
  • Team Player: Work positively in a team environment and follow instructions with good judgment.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • License: Valid Maine motor vehicle operator’s license and Class B Commercial Driver’s License (or ability to become certified within 18 months).
  • Experience: Snow removal and road maintenance experience preferred, but not mandatory.
