Patrol Deputy
The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office is actively recruiting for the position of Patrol Deputy. We offer a competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package to include generous vacation, 14 paid holidays, sick leave, health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, employer paid short-term supplemental insurance, uniforms and equipment, including a take-home vehicle.
The Sheriff’s Office offers a "4 on - 3 off" work schedule with rotating days off.
No flipping from days to nights or vice versa, your assigned shift is set every year.
As of July 1, 2024, the base pay will range from $29.47 to $36.46 per hour, with pay steps at every year. 
Lateral entry base-pay and vacation commensurate with actual years of experience.  
Incentives offered for post-secondary education, plus a professional development reimbursement program.
Shift differential, specialty pay, overtime and special details are ample.  
Sagadahoc County is part of the MEPERS retirement system, Plan 3-C for Law Enforcement Officers.
Deputies are eligible to retire after 25 years at 2/3 pay with a COLA. There is no age limit. Applicants can also choose a VOYA 457b retirement plan as well.

Sagadahoc County assigns each Deputy a cruiser allowing greater flexibility, better service, and faster response to calls at the beginning and end of your shift.
There are multiple opportunities for Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Deputies to work within specialized units/assignments, including the following specialties:
            • K9 Handler
            • Criminal Investigation
            • Crash Reconstruction
            • Forensic Sketch Artist
            • Drug Recognition Expert
            • Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA) Investigator
            • Field Training Officer
            • Marine Shellfish Warden

In addition to the listed specialties, we train officers to be skilled instructors in various fields including EVOC, MARC, Firearms, SFST, Intoxilyzer Instructor, Crash Investigations, Forensic Mapping, Crisis Intervention Team, ALICE Instructor, CPR Instructor, Taser, Less Lethal Munitions, Physical Fitness Instructor, and Handgun/Shotgun/Rifle armorers.   Deputies have firearms training monthly. 

Sagadahoc County is an exciting place to live and work, comprised of ten communities located an easy distance from Portland and Augusta. Popham Beach, Reid State Park and Sebasco Harbor Resort are within our jurisdiction. There are many hiking trails and numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation on land and sea.

Applicants are not required to have a degree but must be 21 years old to apply. If you are 20 years of age, you must have a minimum of 60 credit hours or be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary education program.

Applicants are also required to have taken and passed the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Physical Fitness Test. You must submit the results with your application.
