As the Working Foreman, you’ll play a critical role in the operation and maintenance of Sanford’s Transfer Station, including our recycling program.  You’ll oversee the safe and efficient processing, storage, and transfer of refuse.  This role allows a large degree of independent decision-making, providing you with the opportunity to shape the methods and processes for refuse disposal, compaction, and handling.  You’ll also be responsible for upholding State and Federal regulations on hazardous waste disposal and environmental standards.

This position will provide emergency support and assist in snow and ice removal operations, keeping our roads safe and clear during winter.  The successful applicant is required to be available nights, holidays, and weekends  when inclement weather or emergencies require.

Applicants must have and maintain a valid State of Maine Class II/B CDL operator’s license and attain a State of Maine Class I/A within 6 months of an approved class being offered.  Applicants must also possess a non-fault accident free driving record for the 18 months previous and no moving citations in the past 12 months.

All applicants for positions requiring a CDL are required to pass a drug test as a prerequisite of employment, prior to final hiring and must also successfully pass a background check to the satisfaction of the City.  Application and instruction packets may be obtained from the Human Resources Department or Department of Public Works.

Why Sanford Public Works?  This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position offering competitive pay and excellent benefits.  As a valued member of our team, you’ll have the chance to grow your skills, enjoy a stable career, and know that your work makes a difference every day.  If you’re ready to lead with dedication, responsibility, and the drive to make Sanford a cleaner, safer place, apply now to become our Working Foreman (Equipment Operator 5) for the Transfer Station.
