GENERAL INFORMATION: Barg. Unit: Non-Union
Status: Temporary (seasonal, June-August) position
Schedule: 40 hours/week, Mon.-Fri, Days
REQUIREMENTS: Must be available Monday-Friday during day hours for this seven-week camp program. Two (2) or more years of day camp/school/childcare experience is preferred. This is an active position, applicants should have the ability to be highly active. Should enjoy working with people of all ages, and have an understanding of age-appropriate programming, behavior and social needs. Must be a self-starter, demonstrate accountability for participant safety, equipment, supplies and necessary reporting- and be at all times an adaptive, flexible and positive role model. Ideal candidates will be creative, friendly, flexible and have excellent attention to detail and teamwork skills.
WORK ACTIVITIES: Communicate and delegate tasks for 5-7 counselors, enforcing staff expectations and responsibilities. Develop themed weeks and activities with other lead staff. Oversee daily activities for up to 45 campers, ensuring safe and positive experiences. Assist with parent and family communication. Plan and run activities and programs. Lewiston Recreation Day Camp begins in June with training for day camp staff beginning 1-2 weeks prior to the start of camp. Under the guidance of the Youth and Family Program Aide and Recreation Director, assist with supervising and participating in planning, organizing and directing safe and positive recreational activities for participants. Follow daily planned schedule for indoor and outdoor activities. Set up, explain, and demonstrate arts and crafts, games, indoor and outdoor activities. Assist with serving meals and snacks and participate in clean up after meals and all activities. Supervise participants on weekly field trips, administer basic first aid, maintain discipline and safety of all camp participants. Complete required paperwork, to include reporting all accidents and injuries in a timely manner. Communicate with parents, staff and participants throughout the day. Perform other duties as assigned, following instructions given by camp directors. Adapt to a changing environment based on needs of the program.
