The Town of Freeport is currently seeking a 37.5 hour a week full-time Payroll Clerk to join our Finance Department. This is an opportunity to join a supportive team and play a part in serving our community. The Payroll Clerk reports to the Finance Director and is responsible for providing financial, administrative, and clerical services to the Finance Department and Town Manager’s office. General tasks include the efficient and timely processing and delivery of weekly payroll and related finance operations, supporting basic Human Resources functions, and assisting the Town Manager with inquiries from the public. This work involves regular communication and coordination with departments and employees; the ability to manage the workload independently to complete work in a timely manner; and the ability to maintain a high level of sensitivity and confidentiality regarding employee and citizen information and issues. Considerable independence is exercised in following established procedures and routines. Work is reviewed through audits, observation, conferences, reports, and evaluation of results.

The ideal candidate will bring a technical skill set, be able to work both independently and within a team, and bring a customer-focused approach to their work. Candidates will have graduated from high school or equivalent, with an Associate’s degree in accounting, bookkeeping, or related field preferred. One (1) to three (3) years of payroll experience is required.
