FIRE/RESCUE CHIEF

The Town of New Gloucester, Maine (pop. 5,800 approx.) is seeking a qualified team player to fill the position of the Fire Rescue Chief. The Town of New Gloucester is located between Portland and Auburn/Lewiston, Maine. The Department covers approximately 42 square miles from a single station. The Department is a full-service fire/rescue and EMS organization that has an average of 45 on-call fire/EMS personnel; the Fire and Rescue Chief is a working leader and member of the Fire Rescue Team. The department responds to more than 600 fire and EMS calls per year. The current annual operating budget of the Fire Department is approximately $795,000.

Candidate must have strong leadership and managerial skills combined with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Additional essential traits include, but are not limited to; community oriented, strong work ethic, integrity, proven human resource capabilities, and adaptability and creativity. New Gloucester is looking for a leader with problem solving skills and team building initiatives, all while planning and directing the work activities and operations of the department. Candidate will be expected to be part of the community and build the call membership with individuals dedicated to fire/EMS service.

Qualifications preferably include seven to ten years of municipal fire/rescue experience, five years of command officer experience, and a degree from an accredited university. Basic EMT licensure preferred. Candidates must have demonstrated experience and skill within the following critical areas: budgeting, crafting collaborative interagency relationships, pacing change, fire-ground management, and emergency management.
