Ogunquit Police Department - Deputy Police Chief
The Town of Ogunquit, “Beautiful-Place-by the Sea,” has an opening for a year round, full-time Deputy Police Chief. The Deputy Police Chief is a highly responsible administration, supervisory, technical position assisting in the overall direction of the activities and employees of the Ogunquit Police Department.
The Deputy Chief is the second highest-ranking officer of the department and a department authority in all matters of policy, operations, and discipline. The Deputy Chief shall have full authority to command, direct and discipline all members of the subordinate rank within the agency. This position shall be directly responsible to the Chief for the morale, discipline and welfare of all members of the department.
The Deputy Chief shall assume full command of the department in the absence of the Chief, assuming all privileges, responsibilities, duties, and obligations. The Deputy Chief shall exercise all lawful powers of the office, and issue such lawful orders as are necessary as to assure the effective performance of the department and ensuring that orders of the Chief of Police are carried out in an orderly and efficient manner.
The Deputy Police Chief shall demonstrate ethical conduct, community stewardship, individual initiative, and responsive service and demonstrate effective performance through clear, concise communication; collaboration; sound decision-making; personal accountability and responsibility. The Deputy Chief’s position will be subject to a flexible work schedule and call-out as required by their duties and is subject to evaluation by the Chief of Police.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Experience and Education/Training:
• Bachelor’s degree in Management, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have at least five (5) years of experience successfully supervising police personnel or five (5) to eight (8) years of leadership experience, including military service. An equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating the necessary skills and abilities will also be considered.
Licenses/Certifications:
• Must be certified as a full-time police officer by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy or capable of obtaining certification and must be certified as a police instructor by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, or capable of obtaining instructor certification.
• Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Must complete a Command Level course within one (1) year of date of appointment to the position of Deputy Chief
• Weapons and self-defense training
* Must undergo a psychological evaluation and polygraph
