Position Title: Appraiser

Reports to: Assistant Assessor & Assessor
Status: Full-Time, 38 hours per week ($28.10/hour)
Schedule: Monday – Thursday
Education and Experience: High School diploma and some college-level or real estate courses preferred. The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of the Assessment field, strong analytical, mathematics, and computer skills. Effective communication with co-workers and the public is essential. Must be able to measure and list all types of real and personal property. A Valid State of Maine Driver’s License is required. Must be able to acquire a Certified Maine Assessor (CMA) designation within two years.
Essential Functions:
• Determines assessed valuations of residential properties, as directed. Responsible for accurate data input which affects property valuations.
• Navigates Assessing and Code Enforcement software; processes permit information and enters data into the assessing database.
• Schedules inspection of properties. Performs field inspections, including measuring, listing, and photographing properties for purposes of updating assessing records.
• Ability to recognize and analyze factors influencing property values.
• Provides property owners with information and applications related to all exemption and current use programs.
• Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of real and personal property assessment and valuation.
• Familiarity with MS Office, Excel, Outlook and Word programs and specialized tax assessing software including Vision Appraisal, Net Deed Plotter and iWorQ.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
• Assist and answer questions from walk-in patrons and telephone requests regarding assessment issues.
