The City of Saco is looking for a Truck Driver to join our team at the Public Works Department. This individual is responsible for assisting with construction labor, equipment operation, and truck driving. The City offers excellent benefits and competative compensation. Come join our team today!

Essential Duties and Responsibiliites:

  • Operates a variety of equipment such as automobiles, pick-up trucks, dump trucks, medium rated loaders and similarly rated vehicles or equipment.
  • Hauls merchandise, equipment and supplies as directed.
  • Performs semi-skilled labor associated with Public Works maintenance and construction activities.
  • Maintains all operating equipment in good operating condition.
  • May operate trucks, plows and snow blowers during snow and ice removal.
  • Requires overtime, both scheduled and non-scheduled.
  • Makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
  • Services specialized equipment by adjusting belts, oiling, and greasing as needed.
  • Performs related work as requested.
  • May work in a group of workers on a special maintenance or construction operation.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of the operation, use, and maintenance of the equipment to which is assigned.
  • Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in the operations of heavy equipment, along with delegating such compliance.
  • Considerable knowledge of highway repair, maintenance methods and equipment operations.
  • Skill in operation of Public Works maintenance equipment.
  • Considerable knowledge of highway repair, maintenance methods and equipment operations.
  • Ability to take initiative in routine maintenance matters.
  • Must be able to keep detailed records.
  • Ability to understand, and carry out, written and oral instructions.
  • Must possess a valid Class B operator’s license, or the ability to obtain one during the first six-months of employment.
  • Ability to operate all equipment safely around obstructions and personnel.
  • Must be able to work well with others and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, officials and the public.
  • Must be able to lift 60 lbs

Education and Experience

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have 6 months experience in construction or equipment operations, or any other equivalent experience and training.
