The City of Saco is seeking an Advanced Mechanic at our Public Works Department.The Public Works Mechanic performs skilled work in the maintenance and repairs on gasoline and diesel-powered automobiles, construction, snow removal and other powered and non-powered equipment. Responsible for inspecting, removing, installing, diagnosing, repairing, disassembling, and assembling electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical parts, components and engines. Properly maintains accountability and control of parts and tools needed to sustain the vehicle/equipment maintenance and other department operations. The hourly rate for this posion ranges from $30.18-31.40 dependong on experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform preventative maintenance, state safety inspections and general repairs on assigned vehicles and equipment with little to no supervision
- Performs general maintenance and cleaning activities around the garage and department facilities.
- Assists with winter operations as required.
- Performs other related work as required.
- Required overtime, both scheduled and non-scheduled.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Applicant must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of automotive technical or vocational training preferred. Nine-years’ of experience as an automobile/heavy equipment mechanic is preferred.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a valid Maine Class C Driver’s License.
- Must possess a Maine Class B (Maine Commercial) Driver’s License.
- Must possess a State of Maine (Class A, and/or D) Vehicle Inspection licenses. Obtain a State of Maine class B inspection license within 6 months of hire.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of tools, maintenance practices, and equipment involved in shop operations.
- Knowledge of safety (Occupational Safety and Health Administration - OSHA and environmental) standards and their application in a garage environment.
- Knowledge of standard practices and use of acetylene and electric welding.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and clearly relay actions taken to supervisor.
- Assist with the organization and cleaning of the garage and related areas.
- Ability to perform skilled maintenance tasks independently, without constant supervision.
- Conduct themselves in an orderly and courteous manner.
- Clearly document maintenance actions taken and pending in writing to include in an electronic maintenance management system.
- Performs other related work as directed.
