Job Summary:
The City of Ellsworth is seeking a detail-oriented, motivated, and community-focused individual to join our team as a Deputy Code Officer. The Deputy Code Officer assists in the enforcement of municipal and state codes related to building, zoning, land use, health, and safety regulations. This role involves conducting inspections, investigating complaints, and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws to support safe and responsible development in our growing community.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the interpretation and enforcement of local ordinances and state regulations.
- Conduct field inspections of residential, commercial, and public properties.
- Investigate complaints regarding potential code violations and prepare written reports.
- Work collaboratively with the public, property owners, contractors, and other city departments.
- Issues permits, notices of violation, and follows up to ensure compliance.
- Maintains accurate records and documentation for inspections, violations, and enforcement actions.
- Perform administrative tasks, including data entry, file management, and correspondence.
- Attend various board and committee meetings as needed, including Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals.
- Review and process minor site plan development review applications in accordance with local ordinances.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience in code enforcement, building inspection, construction, planning, or a related area is preferred.
- Certification or the ability to obtain Maine Code Enforcement Officer Certification within 12 months of hire.
- Valid Maine driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- High level of integrity, reliability, and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Salary:
$50,000-$60,000. The City of Ellsworth offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employees in both their professional and personal lives.
