Job Summary:

The City of Ellsworth seeks a highly motivated Water Operator to help oversee the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of our City’s water treatment and distribution systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, have knowledge of water treatment processes, and be committed to providing excellent public service. The City of Ellsworth Water Department strives to make a difference in the community by providing safe, reliable drinking water to our residents. As a key part of our operation, water operators play a vital role in maintaining and monitoring the City's water supply systems, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor water treatment equipment, including pumps, filters, chemical feeders, and control systems.
  • Collect water samples and conduct chemical and bacteriological tests to ensure compliance with federal and state water quality standards.
  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment, identifying and resolving operational issues.
  • Conduct monthly water meter readings.
  • Complete work orders as needed, including, but not limited to water meter installation, removal, and replacement, leak testing, and Dig Safe requests.
  • Maintain detailed records of daily operations, testing, and maintenance activities.
  • Respond to emergency situations, such as water main breaks, service interruptions, or equipment malfunctions.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting and ensure adherence to all safety protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, contractors, and team members.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • State-certified Water Operator License (or ability to obtain within 1 year after hire).
  • Previous experience working in water treatment or distribution.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems and computerized monitoring equipment.
  • Strong mechanical skills for minor repairs and maintenance.

Salary:

$45,000-$60,000. The City of Ellsworth offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employees in both their professional and personal lives.
